Passion + engagement = Reach?

This post is only partially about this graphic! It's about: Passion is a feeling and engagement is an action.

I recently wrote about personal passion at work and how it fuels engagement–that was one of my favorite lines from that post.

Let’s focus on engagement metrics as marketers. If engagement means action, then following,  likes, and comments feel like success, right? Do you have any data that true engagement is happening with any meaningful actions?

Buffer.com just validated my belief that likes, comments, and shares are NOT the true measure of engagement–it’s REACH! News flash: When you are posting to Instagram or other social channels is not AS important as WHAT is happening with your content.

In other words, “sends per reach” is an important part of Instagram’s algorithm and is defined as users sharing posts privately to other users or via DMs. So, those people who are not already following you are a net-net gain in awareness.

The idea of engagement goes beyond social media. It impacts your marketing and sales funnels in terms of the calls-to-action you are inviting users to do. What actions are you measuring to ensure engagement is getting fueled by passion?

That’s it! Oh, and the best time to post is in the graphic here: 3 p.m.-6 p.m. local time.
